Editorial & Recipe Testing Policy
At FoodSkout, our mission is to provide reliable, thoroughly tested, and delicious culinary recipes that work consistently in everyday home kitchens. We believe trust is earned through repeatable results, scientific rigor, and transparent editorial standards.
1. The 4-Stage Test Kitchen Protocol
Every recipe published on FoodSkout undergoes a rigorous four-stage development process before it reaches our readers:
- Stage 1: Concept & Flavor Architecture: Formulating balanced flavor profiles, ingredient pairing chemistry, and accessible grocery sourcing.
- Stage 2: Bench Testing & Variable Control: Cooking the dish in a controlled domestic kitchen, measuring timing, liquid reduction rates, pan temperatures, and ingredient weights.
- Stage 3: Independent Cook Replication: Having home cooks with varying skill levels test the recipe without editorial coaching to catch ambiguous instructions or missing cues.
- Stage 4: Sensory Cue & Temperature Calibration: Finalizing visual, auditory, tactile, and aroma cues alongside verified digital thermometer temperatures.
2. Dual Measurement Standards (Metric & US Customary)
Baking and precision cooking demand weight accuracy. FoodSkout provides dual units across all recipes:
- Flour and dry baking ingredients: Provided in grams (g) as well as level cup measurements.
- Liquids: Provided in milliliters (ml) and fluid ounces/cups.
- Proteins and produce: Listed with both imperial (pounds/ounces) and metric (grams/kilograms) weights.
3. Food Safety & Temperature Standards
We adhere strictly to USDA guidelines for safe internal cooking temperatures. All meat, poultry, and seafood recipes specify minimum internal temperature targets measured with an instant-read digital thermometer:
- Poultry (chicken, turkey, duck): 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part.
- Ground meats (beef, pork, lamb): 160°F (71°C).
- Whole cuts of beef, pork, and lamb: 145°F (63°C) followed by a mandatory 3-minute rest.
- Fish and shellfish: 145°F (63°C) or until flesh is opaque and flakes easily.
4. Editorial Independence & Integrity
FoodSkout maintains complete separation between editorial content and advertising or commercial partnerships:
- We never accept payment or incentives to rate a recipe favorably or recommend specific branded ingredients.
- Any sponsored content or affiliate product links are explicitly disclosed at the top of the respective page in compliance with FTC guidelines.
- Equipment recommendations reflect genuine culinary utility tested in our domestic kitchens.
5. Corrections & Continuous Improvement
We actively monitor community feedback and re-test recipes when home cooks report discrepancies. If you notice an error or have questions about a specific culinary technique, please contact our editorial staff at contact@foodskout.com.
